Almost as exciting as my upcoming trip to Seattle, last week it was announced that Mindy Kaling of The Office is getting her own show! The actress who plays tabloid-obsessed Kelly Kapor also writes for the show. And produces it, too. And is of Indian descent and is obviously a mover and shaker in a mainstream American sitcom. But now she gets to develop her own show! Yay! Represent!
“NBC has always taken a chance on me as an on-screen talent, even though there are not Indian-American actresses and I’m not, like, a size zero, so it’s this incredible thing,” Kaling tells TVGuide.com. “There’s not a ton of people who look like me or do what I do.”
She also mentioned in her TV Guide interview that she’s most interested in workplace comedies. And we all know how much offices love diversity. Way to go, Mindy.
And just in case you don’t “get” Twitter, maybe you should just go ahead and get with the program. Instant celeb stalkability. ‘Sides, pretty much every actor from Dunder Mifflin is on it, via E Online:
