I can’t point out where Eagle Rock is on a Los Angeles map, but I can tell you that I felt awkward there and entirely too intentionally dressed. Two fire trucks came by to put out an inadequately protected barbecue fire, and on their heels was an ice cream truck who gave us all free ice cream.
Apparently we were at the house of the creators of the documentary Catfish. They are now working on the third sequel to Paranormal Activity, and I may have heard too much when someone said “It’s going to be totally different. It’s taking place in the eighties.” Then I left the kitchen and listened to Raphael Saadiq. For the rest of the party, he and I were the only people of color – except I was actually there and he was just playing from a MacBook Pro.
