M&D’s SF wedding celebration took place at China Camp State Park in San Rafael. I can’t get over what a fantastic gathering spot that place is. Five barbecue grills, a huge olive (?) tree, terraced rolling hills, and private access down to the San Pablo Bay – It was picturesque and we saw a raccoon. Of course it didn’t hurt that the weather was absolutely perfect that day.

Why is it called “China Camp?” Because this is where Cantonese immigrants set up for their big American Dreams in the 1880s. (Part of me wonders if it wasn’t called “Chinamen Camp” at one point. Completely plausible.) John Wayne filmed Blood Alley here, too. Ooh, California, you so ripe with history…
Seems like a good spot for fishing, no? And that’s exactly what the settlers did when they founded their village.
