at’s outta the bag: Starting today, I’ve got a new gig! I took a week off before my official first day, and I was vehement about not multitasking or being too productive. I’m really glad I did it. While I ran some errands that might count as home-work, I largely focused on rejuvenating myself and building energy and focus for my next venture.*
So here’s how I spent last week during my self-financed sabbatical:
Day 1 – Watched Wreck-It Ralph. I. Loved. It. You. Should. See. It. David, Brittney, and Victoria should be super duper proud!
Day 2 – Went to hometown. Looked at butterflies and dogs that visit Santa Cruz. Tried to convince Mom’s dogs that Daylight Savings Time is a real thing, and that it only seemed like we weren’t feeding them on time.
Day 3 – Went to my first ortho appointment since I was in junior high. Prioritized new laptop over Invisalign. (Am quite fine with my imperfect teeth, thank you.) Ate lunch with Dad and satisfied vain insecurities about eyelashes with a prescription for Latisse. Then got my hair done by my genius stylist. It was Dad, Maintenance, & Vanity Day.
Day 4 – Voted for Obama and tried to survive an intense day of election stress/fatigue. Entered domestic partnership with Bill. Got “love tap” from possibly more election-stressed consumer in Trader Joe’s parking lot. Celebrated friends’ wedding at a shooting range. Turned out to be pretty good at shooting. Almost had a heart attack at range watching electoral college numbers crawl.
Fired shots of relief when Obama got elected into his second term of office.
Day 5 – Got an oil change that turned into five other things and five times the price but figure it’s my fault for not taking the car in earlier. Welcomed the upcoming venture, Bevel Trunk Shows, to the fashion-loving Internet.
Watched The Lion King at Orpheum Theatre. Proceeded to have “He Lives in You” stuck in my head for what’s going on five days now.
Day 6 – The Pinnacle! Headed down Highway 1 to Treebones Resort in Big Sur. Experienced all kinds of catharsis with my most treasured love one. God rays. Otters. Wildlife Rescue saving a pelican. Seagull attempting to eat a starfish.
Yurt life. Coziness in the rain. Will expound more upon Treebones particulars later.
Day 7 – Hiked and Hearst Castled.
Day 8 – Another beautiful morning at Treebones. Headed home.
Day 9 – Ate pizza with old friends and then ate gelato. Packed my bag for my “first day of school.” Finally finished my second Munny. (More on that later, too.)
*Sorry, I can’t tell you where I’m working yet. Suffice it to say: It is really cool and I am really excited about it, but yes, I’m joining that league of smuggles who’s all like “I can’t tell you cause we’re in stealth mode.” Because we’re in stealth mode.
It’s that good. Stay tuned! I hope you love it.
