I was at Craftsman & Wolves, paying for my sandwich (The Daily Special: saucisson sec) and pastry (raspberry almond croissant) to go, when “Creep” came on over the airwaves. The cashier and I started going “Whoa-oa-oa!” in throwbackers’ delight.
In unison: “Whoa-oa-oa!”
“I bet you wish were eating this here now, don’t you?” she joked.
“I do, I do!” I said.
Since we synced up so quickly over that simple horn intro, I brought up the only recent didjoo know tidbit I have about TLC:
Did you know they’re making a movie about TLC and they’re having Lil Mama play Left Eye?
The cashier was excited. “No! No way! They’re doing a movie?”
And then she thought about the second half of my announcement, “Wait, who’s doing Left Eye? Who’s playing her?”
“Lil Mama,” I said.
“Who is that? Why don’t I know about Lil Mama?”
“She’s the one who did that lip gloss song.”
And then the “no’s” turned ugly:
Noooooo! Nooooooooo! That’s – ugh – nooooooo!
I left because I didn’t know how to back pedal on the damage I’d done.
