Hello, Bevel.

Today’s a big day for self-described accessorizers. Jewelry chests, meet Bevel Trunk Shows! Bring me your weary, done, and over-it adornments. Here come the designs that trickle up to influence personal style trends, and Bevel’s got it all well before they hit mass production.

These days there are so many members-only sites that the mechanic itself is no longer original. (Even Gilt has gone in a more flash sales direction than its original sample sale inspiration.) The distinction between each .com lies completely in the curation and collections they offer. Bevel’s powered by the discerning palette of former Bergdorf, Bloomies, Saks, ShopBop, Elle, and WWD buyers and editors. This ain’t no meet-a-quota assortment.

The giveaway.

To kick things off, Bevel’s giving away one exclusive piece every day for its first seven days. The first pièce de résistance hits you smack in the face with color and light:

Visit beveltrunkshows.com and use the access code “NYC150.”

I’d imagine it’s like wearing Pop Rocks.

I’ve never done the Black Friday thing. I may have ended up at a mall on the day after Thanksgiving by accident, but seeing as how I hate even lining up for a food truck, you just won’t find me lining up outside a mall, outlet, or otherwise.

A few years ago, American Express founded Small Business Saturday. It’s the Saturday after Black Friday, and instead of hyping up doorbuster (I’ve never typed that word before because I hate it.) deals, they celebrate the ma-and-pa institutions that you trust more than any brand mentioned in your daily advertising intake.

I already love American Express for their amazing service, Foursquare integration, and SXSW Jay-Z concert. But even before all of those savvy social media biz dev deals took place, they won me over with Small Business Saturday. Not satisfied with Obama’s plans for economic revival? Put your money where your vote would’ve been and support the small business owners who make your city liveable and loved.

Party Time with Poshmark: Bring yer shoes, cause I’ve got the dress.

In the spirit of prepping for tax season* and auditing, I’ve been on a roll cleaning out my closet. (Meanwhile acquiring Gucci leather heels and a Rag & Bone waistcoat for a fraction of the value of my consignments – ow ow!) Though I can easily employ the “But I love it so much” defense whenever sentimentality wins over the “If you haven’t worn it in a year…” rule, I’ve become better at recognizing complete detachment when I sense it, even when it leads to letting go of fun occasion pieces that are in perfect condition.

Re-enter Poshmark into my give forth-and-consign overhaul. This Wednesday, Poshmark is hosting a live (meaning not just in real-time mobile, but also in person) Posh Party at Acre/SF:

TODAY! Shop my closet with Poshmark.

Today is the day! Jessica (Adventures of Yoshi), Rachel (Raaachem), and I are hosting Poshmark’s least girly Poshmark Party ever, “Street Style Chic Party.” Poshmark’s first bicoastal mobile event is happening tonight, right in the Poshmark app! You may have seen last week’s feature in Refinery 29, or you may have seen my umpteen Twitter and Facebook updates about it, but for final review:

  1. Poshmark is an iPhone app that allows you to list, sell, shop, and buy – All right from your phone.
  2. Jess, Rachel, and I have been combing our closets for weeks in preparation! You’re gonna like the way you look (provided that you buy our stuff, which I promise is in great-to-excellent condition).

Poshmark just launched this month, making you, my friend, a potential early adopter. Think of our li’l Poshmark Party as a trunk show of stuff that our picky selves selected. I’ve basically gone through my wardrobe with my Tough Love Goggles on – Haven’t worn it in a year? It’s time it moved on. And trust me, I’m happy to try anything that involves not going to Buffalo to have my time wasted by a freshman “buyer” who just wants to pay for her Bachelors in Political Science and unwarranted affinity for American Apparel.

So what am I selling? A few of my accessories that span the streetwear-glam rock-urban-yet-gilded age. Black and whites of some of what I’ll be offering are below. Tune in at 8 PST in the Poshmark app to see the full color versions and have all your “But how awesome is it?” questions answered!

If you’re gonna shop, shop indie.

Black Friday, a day of loathing. I understand the sense of accomplishment in getting a great deal, but you know what I value more? My time. I do not line up for Missoni x Target/Versace x H&M collabs. It’s called shopping from home – Because I’ve been that retail employee on the madhouse after Thanksgiving, and I’m damn good at scoring excellent discounts while seated comfily in my couch.

If you’re looking for gifts or gifting yourself, check out a couple of my friends’ brands. Their online stores have holiday deals that are set to start on Friday, and again – You won’t have to engage in fisticuffs to get your prize, nor will you even have to worry about waddling in public in your post-feast Spandex.

HELLZADAZE.

Hellz’ Holiday 2010 release apparently wasn’t as big as they were dreaming in their heads, because they’ve come up with a secondary round. This special Holiday capsule collection goes live at midnight on December 14, a mere seven minutes from this point in typing. I’m stoked to see what the team’s thought up. Oh please, … Continue reading HELLZADAZE.
