As Bill and I get packed and ready for Emerald City Comicon tomorrow, he’s riding on a wave of excitement not only for the con, but also for the mini-movement that just started today! Four years ago, Bill and his best friend since childhood, Ian, started writing and illustrating the untold story of Gwendolyn Prouts, a gingerheaded pet reaper in search of her family.
Gwendolyn and the Underworld is the sixty-four-page children’s book that brings Gwendolyn’s story above ground. Within the hardcover, you’ll find a shy peack-odge-hog (Matching pet parts are difficult to come by in Underworld.), a creepy-ass pig-nosed aunt (avec octopus arm), delightful prose (a la the ever-talented Ian), and gorgeous illustrations (Nice job, Bill.). There will even be final pages devoted to the makings of the book, including sketches and concept art from the very beginnings of the writing process.
Starting less than four hours ago, Gwendolyn is en route to becoming a real-life, hold-in-your-hands book. After months of Bill huddling up in his studio to sketch, sculpt, study, draw, and edit, Gwendolyn is finally up on Kickstarter! Bill and Ian are gathering funds to print Gwendolyn and deliver it to future fans.If you’re interested in that slightly macabre but undeniably heartwarming genre sprouted by the likes of Nightmare before Christmas, check out Gwendolyn on Kickstarter. As with all Kickstarter projects, there are multiple ways to contribute to Gwendolyn’s realization, and in return they all come with tokens of thanks and appreciation. Since pushing publish on the Kickstarter page, twenty-six backers have contributed a cumulative $1,300 in funds! We’ve still got a month to go, but we’re excited to watch that ticker update.
